Faith In Action

“What good is it my brothers and sisters, if someone claims to have faith but has no deeds? Can such faith save them?” James 2:14

Some have misinterpreted this verse to mean that our works or deeds save us. Romans 10:9 clearly states that, “If you confess with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord’ and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.”

So what is James talking about? Chapter 2 offers further insight when James writes, “As the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without deeds is dead.” Faith is proven in the action of our obedience and submission to Christ. Faith really isn’t faith until you step out in obedience and choose His will over your own.

Action and movement characterize life. As long as we are living our cells are active, our lungs are breathing, and our heart is pumping blood. Death stops these things. That is why faith without deeds (or action) is dead.

Abraham was willing to offer Isaac as a sacrifice and it was credited to him as righteousness. This was a test of his faith where he proved with his actions that he trusted God with everything, even his only son.

Is your faith alive and active? Are there areas of your life where your faith is dead and lifeless? Do you trust God with everything? What areas of your life do you need to fully submit to God?

God is in the business of resurrecting dead things and He wants to give you new life. Put your faith in action today by stepping out in obedience and living the life you were created for.
