12 Jul Rest
In May of 2016, the Huffington Post published an article about Type A people. Most high-level leaders are as described – driven, efficient, and competitive. The dark side of this is a refusal to rest. The article says it’s just the way we are. Although many of these have been true of me in the past, I’m growing up. I’ve learned that I am not God – surprise! All does NOT depend on me.
Relaxation and caring while we lead demonstrate our faith in God to be sufficient. In fact, refusing rest and not taking Sabbath are rebellion, plain and simple.
“Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is a sabbath to the Lord your God. On it you shall not do any work, neither you, nor your son or daughter, nor your male or female servant, nor your animals, nor any foreigner residing in your towns. For in six days, the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, but he rested on the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy.” Exodus 20: 8-11
The Sabbath was made FOR us, so we remember Who we serve and the He is in control of everything.
Leaders, we need to lead people to serve AND to rest. God wants us to lead by our life and practice, not only our words. Will you join me?
