22 Aug Shift Your Focus: Singleness
“But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” Matthew 6:33
The single Christian must grab hold of this scripture to seek the kingdom of God FIRST and then all of these things will be added to us. It’s a simple, understandable request, but it must take root in our heart and mind in order for it to put into action. If we cannot put God first in our lives when we are single then we surely won’t be able to do it when we have the distraction of a relationship. It is only when we pursue God and are found full in Him that all these things will be added.
One day while driving I was talking with the Lord and I realized I wanted to be in a relationship so much that I was pursing it above my relationship with God. I wasn’t seeking Him first and or trusting Him for the things to be added. The Holy Spirit gently reminded me that I was pursuing a relationship that I was not ready for. There were things He was doing in me now that would prepare me for a better marriage someday. In a sermon series on dating Andy Stanley posed this question, “Are you the person that the person you are looking for is looking for?” The reality is, the more Christ-like I become, the better spouse I can one day be.
