23 Oct The 8 Best Ways to Grow Your Group
You have just formed your Group. It’s official. Life Group, party of twelve. So, now what? Lifepoint gives you a Group that is already formed and ready to roll, right? Wise men are going to follow a star that leads them directly to your front door the moment your first meeting begins, right? Not exactly, but here are some different strategies to help you add to your Group.
I planted the seed, Apollos watered it, but God has been making it grow. – 1 Corinthians 3:6 NIV
The following actions are ways you can plant and water seeds for your Group, but ultimately God is the one who is going to make it grow. A great way to begin the process of growing your Group is to ask God to give you success as you make connections. Many times we turn to God through prayer as a last resort. Why not pray first in this process?
As Jesus walked beside the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and his brother Andrew casting a new into the lake, for they were fishermen. “Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will send you out to fish for people.” At once they left their nets and followed him. – Mark 1:16-18 NIV
Invite your friends; invite your neighbors; invite the parents you meet at the PTA meeting at school. Whether it’s at Lifepoint or the grocery store, if you meet people and feel the call, invite them to join you!
Teach Your Members to “Be A Bringer”
If you’re the only person inviting people, that puts a cap on the rate of growth for your Group. Once your Group is off the ground, encourage members to invite others. Ask the question, “Who are you bringing to Group next week?” Make sure new people feel comfortable and new members feel welcome.
Help the Group Online Search
Make sure your information is complete and correct in the Group Online Search, so people looking for a Group can find you. Give information that will make your group sound appealing.
Every Lifepoint campus has a Facebook Group, and those groups are full of members who want to be connected. Use these groups to your advantage! You have plenty of friends from all over the area that look at your posts, tweets, and pictures. Tell them about your group and how excited you are for it to begin.
Use GROW and Next Steps
We have people serving with the sole mission to get people connected. Talk to them about your Group. Stand by Next Steps to talk to people and make the connection yourself. Attend GROW and talk about Groups, and if you find people who would fit your Group, make the connection happen!
Wear Your Gather Shirt
Wear your Gather shirt when you attend services on the weekend. Let people know you are part of the Group’s ministry and answer any questions they have. Arrive at services early and be social. Talk to people in the lobby. Talk to the people who are sitting around you before services start, or as you are waiting for your rows to exit.
Look for Serving Opportunities
Let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together…but encouraging one another. – Hebrews 10:24-25 ESV
Participating in an outreach event? This is the perfect time to meet people! The more people you meet, the more chances you have to grow your Group.
Finding a theme yet? Talk to people. Make connections. Even if the people you are talking to aren’t looking for a Group like yours, they might know someone who is. You never know where you will meet your next Group member, so always be looking for chances to talk to people, make connections, and encourage your Group to grow.
